As a child I often went to Nicosia, where my paternal grandparents lived. Grandfather Francesco was a farmer. Dad tells me that when they went through the fields he helped him place the crow's nest on the back of his mule and they put everything in that bag.

My first crow's nest was born from the desire to personalize an object of the Sicilian popular tradition. Strip it from that exclusive idea of rural use and contextualise it in a creative context that makes it unique, rich and special.

It is in fabrics that I find inspiration. When I start to peek into grandmother Filippa's trunks, precious chests full of fine, rigorously handmade items. When I come across an old market and I am captivated by the detail of an embroidery, by the particular texture of a fabric, by its colour.

With meticulous attention I choose the trimmings or any other accessory that will enhance the crow's nest. The detail must be refined, precious, refined. It can be a family brooch, a bobbin lace, a Sicilian parade, a simple lace that escapes the eyes of many, but in my head it becomes the creator of a complex creative process.

This is how Marinisa Bag was born from a crow's nest found in my grandparents' house and from a blue and white tea placemat that my grandmother herself had embroidered.
The success and interest in that partially revisited "shopping bag" was continually growing, so little by little that little corner of the house where I managed to carve out a little space for myself to sew was transformed into something that resembles a tailoring workshop.

Creating a crow's nest means telling the story of the woman who will wear it, accepting from time to time the challenge of preserving the elegance, style and femininity that distinguish that person.
With Love,

As a child I often went to Nicosia, where my paternal grandparents lived.
Grandfather Francesco was a farmer. Dad tells me that when they went
to the fields he helped him to arrange the nest on the back of his mule
and they put everything in that bag.

My first crow's nest was born from the desire to personalize an object of the
Sicilian popular tradition. Undress it from that exclusive idea of rural use
and contextualize it in a creative environment that makes it unique, rich and special.

It is in the fabrics that I find inspiration. When I begin to peek among the trunks
of grandmother Filippa, precious chests full of rigorously hand-made precious accessories.
When I come across an old flea market and I am captivated by the detail of an embroidery,
by the particular texture of a fabric, by its color.

With meticulous attention I choose the trimmings or any other accessory that
will enhance the crow's nest. The detail must be refined, precious, refined.
It can be a family brooch, a bobbin lace, a Sicilian parade, a simple lace that escapes
the eyes of many, but in my head it becomes the author of an articulated creative process.

This is how Marinisa Bag was born from a crow's nest found in her grandparents' house
and from a white and blue tea mat that grandma herself had embroidered.
The success and interest in that partially revisited "shopping bag" were constantly growing,
so little by little that little corner of the house where I was able to carve out some space for sewing,
became something that looks like a tailoring workshop.
